Shari van dorn
Shari Van Dorn and Zeki Abed have been friends since grammar school, growing up in the East Bay. They attended high school and college together, both graduating from UC Berkeley College of Environmental Design with degrees in Landscape Architecture.
Shari moved to Southern California after graduation to work for Peridian Group in Irvine. She managed projects including planned unit developments, resort hotels and the design for Eurodisney’s Frontierland, Main Street and Support Facilities. After five years at Peridian Group, she moved to Paris France to work as a consultant to Disney managing the construction document production for the park. After permitting and initial infrastructure construction administration was completed, she returned to the Bay Area and joined Melvin Lee Associates. There she managed staff and worked with many developers in the Bay Area as well as abroad. In 2004 she and Zeki formed Van Dorn Abed Landscape Architects Inc. to continue their shared passion for design.

ZEKI ABED
Zeki Abed joined Peridian Group soon after graduation, designing projects both locally and internationally. After Peridian Group, he formed his own design build firm, MDZA with an associate. In that capacity he designed and supervised the construction of many high-end residential and commercial projects in and around the greater Southern California Los Angeles basin, including Laguna Beach, Palm Springs, Pacific Palisades and Montecito.
From 1999-2000 he was hired as an independent consultant by Peridian to oversee the design and reconstruction of the 74 acre site at One & Only Ocean Club Resort in the aftermath of hurricane Floyd.
In 2000 Zeki and Shari rejoined forces to work and design together, establishing VALA Inc. in 2004. They have collaborated on work ranging from planned unit developments, multi- family urban infill projects, public and private parks, and renovations.
Throughout their history, they have studied, traveled, and worked together sharing their dedication for designing sustainable and functional outdoor places for people to live, work and play. Shari and Zeki, along with their talented team, are Van Dorn Abed Landscape Architect Inc.
